Cartilage rupture

Question:
I have a query on a medical matter that I would very much like some advice on. The situation is this: I have a tear to some cartilage in my shoulder, the injury is now 6 months old and only causing minor inconvenience, would there be any implication if I spent the summer diving? My next question is that the consultant would like to operate artheroscipilly to fix the tear and informs me I should be fit to dive within 6 weeks as he is only dealing with soft tissue damage, is this right?

Answer:
There is no reason why you cannot dive relatively safely with the type of injury you state you have, obviously I assume that you will not be doing any physical effort which will aggrevate the condition during your diving.
Your surgeon gave you the correct advice, once healing has occurred there is nothing that should prevent you to return to diving without any particular restrictions.
