We regularly receive questions about IAHD, about our courses and our training system.
To don't let you wait too long, we have listed the most frequently asked questions below with the corresponding answer.
If you have any other questions, you can contact us via our contact form.
Who can follow IAHD Courses?
Almost anybody with physical or (minor) mental disabilities can follow an IAHD course. Of course, there are specific pre-requisites for each course. There are also special programs for partners and supervisors..
Why would you follow an IAHD course?
Because your (free) time is fully yours. With the IAHD system you do not have to spend long, mandatory hours in a classroom. You study when and where you wish so you can directly participate in the practical sessions ... and for that you take the course, isn't it?
What is the duration of an IAHD course?
All IAHD courses focus on the achievements of the trainee. As a result, minimum and maximum course durations have not been set. All theoretical and practical learning objectives have been clearly defined. The duration of an IAHD course is therefore dependant on the time the trainee needs to meet each learning objective.
Are IAHD courses officially recognised?
The IAHD courses conform to the guidelines set out by the latest ISO and CEN norms. As a result IAHD courses are recognized worldwide.
How much does an IAHD course cost?
IAHD courses are slightly more expensive than 'standard' dive courses. This is due to the extra equipment and time required to train a diver with physical or mental disabilities. Many countries subsidise sport activities for people with physical or mental disabilities. Your IAHD Instructor can tell you more about available subsidies in your area.
What do I need for the course?
Very little. All theory materials are provided to you prior to commencing the course. The equipment required for practical sessions is also mostly provided, so generally, the only additional items you need are swimwear and a towel.
Do I need medical authorisation?
Yes. To qualify for participation for an IAHD course you must be able to make the following three statements:
• Yes, I want to learn how to dive;
• Yes, my doctor has authorised me to take part in diving activities;
• Yes, my instructor is willing to train me.
