For all 'First Aid' courses within IAHD we use the courses of DAN (Divers Alert Network). These are the courses in which you can learn, for instance, how to perform first aid, how to administer medicinal oxygen or how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). IAHD is a full partner of DAN.
The Diver Safety courses of DAN (Divers Alert Network) are training courses that deal with the safety and management of accidents that can occur during or immediately after scuba diving.
On-site Neurological Assessment for Divers (NEURO)
The DAN “On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers” course is designed to teach participants how to perform a neurological examination on a diver suffering from a suspected diving injury.
The information gathered during the examination can help to convince the diver of the importance of oxygen first aid treatment and can also help qualified medical professionals to determine the course of treatment.
Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (OFA)
The DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries, or Scuba Oxygen Provider, is designed to train participants to recognise possible dive-related injuries and to provide emergency oxygen first aid pending the arrival of local medical services.
Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (ADV)
The DAN Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries, or Advanced Oxygen Provider, is an advanced level course and provides additional training for those individuals who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (OFA) course.
It is designed to train Oxygen Providers to use a positive pressure valve (as the MTV-100) and/or a bag-valve-mask (BVM).
Medical Oxygen Rebreather (MO2R)
The DAN Medical Oxygen Rebreather (MO2R) Training Module is a supplementary training module for those who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course.
DAN Medical Oxygen Rebreather Providers are trained to recognise dive-related injuries for which an MO2R system be used to administer first aid oxygen, to assemble the system and to administer oxygen using the MO2R system.
Dive Medicine for Divers (DMFD)
Dive Medicine for Divers is for individuals interested in better understanding dive physiology and dive safety. It includes topics not normally addressed in dive training, such as fitness to dive, safety planning, allergic reactions and obligations and consequences for those providing first aid.
